Follow Your Curiosities

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have such a curious nature, I always have. As a child I would spend hours laying on my Pepsi sleeping bag on our neighbors sidewalk just watching the clouds as they passed by. I would see unicorns, butterflies, angels, bears and dogs, so many dogs. They would be jumping, hiding, playing with a ball or running, always thrilling my artistic muse because I wondered if anyone else was seeing what beauty nature had to offer. Such wonderment and curiosity filled my life and thankfully it just never left. I still find myself laying on our pier watching the clouds go by, just waiting for something to peek out and reveal itself to me. Do you see her? Such joyful dancing, now where is that little dog hiding…

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As we say goodbye to another year I want to spend some time reflecting on the good, the bad and the ugly. We need to celebrate the good, our wins, our successes, our happiness – they are fueling us for the New Year. We also need to acknowledge the bad, the wish we had done better, the lessons we learned but also give us credit for taking chances and trying something. Let’s not be too hard on ourselves, after all, lessons are there to learn from, right? There is always something to gain when you look at the outcome. Now, onto the ugly. This is the hard one but it needs to be recognized too. The losses, the pain, sometimes even the suffering. Here’s the good thing though, we made it. We managed through it and will push ourselves into the New Year. We are here today, celebrate that. Where you are, today! As we head into the New Year let’s focus on the positive, the new slate, the exciting what ifs. That is some powerful motivation if you think about it and give it all of your energy as you move into a year that has no story, no definition, just unlimited possibilities waiting for you. Happy New Year, let’s make this year amazing!

Reflections

Why is it that the holidays just pass in a whirlwind of a blur? I mean, we start decorating our homes the day after Thanksgiving. Wreaths, stockings, family heirloom ornaments, trees, lights, everything we need to transform our ordinary everyday living into something magical and festive. Christmas shopping, sending cards, meal planning, invitations and continuous baking soon follow. The hustle and bustle never ends until all is done. The salutations of family, friends and treasured moments come in the form of holidays cards with wishes, photos and promises to get together more often. This time is something to ponder about each and every year. How thankful you are to share your life with so many! What a blessed life you are living! It can be easily forgotten in these times. And when the time comes to get together, open presents, eat and share our stories, I always sit and marvel at the people around the table in conversation. They are part of me, who I am, who I am made of. The reflection of being so small sometimes is just that. Because when you open your eyes and really think about what YOU encompass, it is always something more. More beautiful. More special. More simple than you really understand. Take the time to just BE today. Be you. Be beautiful. Be special. Be simply who you are – you!

Merry Christmas!

nativity 72.jpg

This hand painted nativity is one of the first things that goes up when decorating for the holidays. It reminds me so much of the past, present and future. I discovered Juliet Martin (the designer of this beautiful jewel) when I was learning how to decorative paint and fell in love with her unique perspective of creating a story with your art. This lead me to selling my painted stuff at local craft shows and consignment shops, putting me in touch with my customer. It also made me want more. To changing colors to fit my decor. Changing lines to rearrange designs to make it more unique. To finally believing that I could start designing, creating and painting to make a living with. Who knew it would lead me down this path for 20 years as an artist? Something I am so grateful for each and every day!

While, you may see a beautiful little nativity scene, I see my artistic life. The past, that my painting needed improving but I was willing to learn, challenge and grow with each stroke. The present, the sun shining its brightness on my gift, being an artist and living an artful life full of inspiration. The future, the hidden treasures carried by the Wisemen. In reality, only limited by your imagination and the courage to go after them. It is a season of birth, celebration and the wonderment of miracles. Believe in yourself – who you are, where you want to go and what you want to achieve. You hold the key, believe in its power!

From me to you, have the happiest of Holidays and Merry Christmas!

Tranquility

I have fallen in love with winter white this year, which is strange because I love a lot of color in my home. This display caught my eye and held my attention for several moments, while browsing one of my favorite boutiques in the area. That is huge this holiday, to get hold and retain my focus! Since I am running around with 1000 things on my mind I don’t know if it was the deer, the neutral palette or the wonderful texture the snow globe offered, but it just seemed peaceful. It is powerful when something stops you in your tracks and makes you think about things. These three little items did that for me today and I am thankful for the tranquility it offered. A quiet moment, a refreshing reflection of my life this year and a thought of stillness yet to come. Change is in the air for me and although the holidays are upon us, I am looking forward to celebrating a new year filled with unlimited possibilities. Peace and good tidings to you all!

Beauty Discovered

Discoveries, they are all around you, literally everywhere. Do you see them?
I have the ability and I think the constant curiosity to seek them out as if a game of hide and seek is happening with only us in the room. It is something I naturally do, look for the hidden treasure that no one really takes the time to find. It is part of my nature, my childhood, my genes. My mom will tell you at four years old I was already mesmerized by the clouds and their wonderful shapes. I would point them out because I wanted them to be noticed, seen by all. Can you imagine? It is such a funny thing for her to remember. So it got me thinking about an artist’s eye, is there such a thing? I know plenty of artists who struggle with color, design, composition and such. Do you really think some of these gifts are given at birth? I have to believe they are. I just can’t see an explanation otherwise.
So, during this holiday season, take the time to see the beauty of your friends and family, the gifts they are to your lives. Discovery this with new eyes as if it is the first time. It will have you wondering what else has been hidden, waiting for you to find it!
